Fifty things

THIS LIST IS A WORK IN PROGRESS

1. My idea of a good time is making lists. You will often see this come to play in my posts.

2. The sound of horn music makes me physically ill. I don’t know how or why all I know is if I listen to say Kenny G I will get nauseous. I once threw up at a Chiz Rider concert at church. This is about as embarrassing as it can get for a 12 year old. It’s also why I avoid most Jazz music at all costs. Telling me this is all in my head makes me really cranky.

3. There was a time when I thought I hated music, but it turns out I just hate listening to the radio. Grey’s Anatomy totally opened up my world musically and when Kasey and I first met she made me mix CDs that changed how I felt about music all together. The addition of iTunes in my life has been a beautiful thing.

4. The song “Changes” by Tupac always make me cry.

5. I am the youngest of four children. I have two brothers and a sister. We all still live in the same town. People often tell me that they have never known siblings who were as different as we are from each other.

6. I actually love to clean and it puts me in a really great mood, but I have to have cleaning supplies. That includes duster, swiffer, rubber gloves and various sprays. Otherwise I feel incapable. I also like to be alone when I clean. Help makes me feel stressed out.

7. I cry more than any other person I know. I get overwhelmed with emotion a lot. Sometimes I worry that it will be too much for people to deal with. Very rare is the day I get through without crying about something.

8. I love movies. I love owning DVDs and watching my favorite movies when I am alone. I only recently started to like going to the movies through. I am not a crowd person.

9. I was Most Unique of my class. I took this as a huge compliment and my parents just shook their heads.

10. I hate being cold. The office where I work is almost always freezing and daily I wonder if people have died from office AC. I really don’t think it’s fair that it can be July and I still need to wear a sweater.

11. I have an obsession with things I can not afford. Those things are pretty much limited to items from Coach and Tiffany.

12. My drink is a Cosmopolitan not because that is what they drink on Sex and the City, but because I sip when I’m nervous to keep myself from talking and getting a Cosmo will ensure I don’t suck it down too quickly. Plus I think they are delicious. If I’m not nervous I will have a Double Malibu Bay Breeze and if I am really nervous I will get a Martini. Those take me forever to drink. (I stopped drinking in May 2008 though.)

13. The first time I have ever been drunk was when I was nineteen and I was with my aunt in EPCOT at Disney World. We decided to drink around the world at the Food & Wine Festival. The Mexican boat ride was fantastic! This is one of only two times I have ever been drunk. I’m not a fan of excessive drinking.

14. The only diamond I own is a tiny chip in a Tiffany Starfish pendant I bought for myself on my twenty-first birthday.

15. I have a thing for starfish.

16. I have a birthmark on my forehead in the middle of my eyebrows and when I was little kids used to tease me and call me the “little Hindu girl”. I grew up in a very classy town, as you can tell.

17. The show that I kill myself trying to watch on a regular basis is Grey’s Anatomy. George and Izzie are my favorites, but I am starting to love Callie and McSteamy.

18. I am always scared to watch a new movie because I feel like if I don’t like it I will have wasted part of my life.

19. Nineteen is my favorite number.

20. I used to dye my hair about twice a month. It got to the point where it started to break off and I had to start dying it only twice a year. Now I stopped dying it all together and I was fascinated to see that my natural hair color is more brown than blonde. It hasn’t been its full natural color since I was 14.

21. When I was in high school I used to have pink hair. Some people started calling me Pink to make fun of me, but it actually became a cool nickname.

22. I like to try things that I hate just to make sure that I really do hate them. I almost always am assured that I really do hate those things.

23. When I was 8 I drove under a chain-link fence in a lawn mower because I was too short to reach the break. My face got pretty cut up, but you can’t really see the scars now. My brother got in trouble for letting me on there and I felt bad because I had begged him to let me.

24. I am so scared of needles that I feel faint just hearing about them. This doesn’t seem to dissipate as I get older.

25. I have only ever been to two concerts: Backstreet Boys when I was 13 and Blink 182 when I was 17.

26. I love every book SARK has ever put out.

27. I am almost never bored. I don’t know if maybe I had to entertain myself a lot when I was little or something, but I can almost always find something entertaining to do. I really don’t understand the boredom of others. You have the whole world! This is your life! How can you not be able to think of anything to do?

28. I am obsessed with bath & body products. I don’t know exactly how or when this happened, but few things make me happier than fancy face wash. I only buy items from LUSH and Duross & Langel. I also have my address on the contact me page if you are the sort of lovely individual that likes to send gifts to much appreciative strangers.

29. The Magazines I read regularly are Bitch, Bust, and Real Simple.

30. I will also continue to wear Uggs despite what everyone says because they are comfortable and warm and that is all that matters on a cold winter day. I also really don’t understand how people can be so angry about shoes. Yes, I also like Birkenstocks and Crocs. Get off my back! Oh! I have also started an obsession with Simple’s GreenToe collection. Lovely and recycled. Woo!

31. I like the weather around me to be cool, but me to be warm. For example: a lightly windy cool fall day and me in Birkenstocks and a sweater. Or air conditioning on and me cocooned in warm blankets.

32. I love holidays. Christmas and Valentine’s Day are my favorites.

33. Wild Horses by The Sundays is still my favorite song. It has been since I was 15. I might have other favorite songs of the moment, but this is my favorite song of all time.

34. I have an obsession with going to Portland, Oregon. I want to live there. I even have a list on my computer of every store I would want to go to and whether or not there is one in Portland. I realize I will probably never get to go there.

35. I have been up and down the East coast, but the farthest west I have been is Louisville, KY.

36. New Years Eve (1992 into 1993) I stayed up till midnight for the first time and watched Sightings with my brother Jay. It a special about aliens and I had nightmare every single night for two straight years. I spent the majority of those two years sleeping on a couch in my sister’s room. To this day I still can’t handle watching any sort of alien abduction program.

37. Before I was conceived my parents had decided they didn’t want anymore kids and had saved up money for a fancy new washer and dryer set. When they found out they were going to have me my mom cried for months and they had to spend the money on baby stuff for me. My father is still bitter about this. Some people think it’s awful to know you were an accident or unplanned. It has honestly never bothered me.

38. I love tattoos and I would be covered in them, but I think into the designs a lot so it takes me years to decide on one. Thus I only have two.

39. If I never get to go to Portland, OR I think I would still be satisfied as long as I live in Philadelphia. That is my new favorite city.

40. I love Chocolate Covered Strawberries. If you want to completely melt my heart surprise me with some. The same is true for flowers, poems, songs and anything handmade or thoughtful.

41. I greatly enjoy spending time alone in my own space. I actually enjoy solitude more than any other person I know. I can be locked in a room for a week straight and be completely content.

42. I wish I know how to sew, quilt, knit and crochet. I would love to be crafty.

43. I have a need to paint. I have never taking a painting class and I have no technique, but few things satisfy me more than having a blank canvas and oil paints and being able to create.

44. I was born in the year of the rat. I used to be very upset about this.

45. Cardigans, tights, and skirts are my favorites. I wear skirts every single day.

46. I hate bugs and insects. The ones I do not hate are: Fireflies, Ladybugs, Butterflies, Caterpillars and those really chubby fuzzy bees that just chill on flowers.

47. I got a rabbit named Penelope in November 2007. She is grey and furry and adorable. Sadly she almost always photographs with red eyes that make her look crazy. She eats as much as we give her and her favorite food is kale.

48. I attended the March for Women’s Lives in 2004 and I am proud to have marched on Washington and stood up for what I believe is right.

49. I love the idea of having long hair, but never in my life have I been able to grow my hair longer than a little past my shoulders. Right now I am embarking on a project to finally grow my hair long. This is also on my 30 before 30 list. I am trying to grow it really long and then donate it to Locks of Love. It’s down to my bra in the back now. I want it to be past the middle.

50. I am currently going to school in hopes of becoming a professor of Women’s Studies. Don’t think I am angry and want to ruin your life though. Feminists are really quite nice, I swear! Feminism is for everyone! (Well maybe not these people: www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com)

51. I have another rabbit named Tula. She was rescued the day before Easter 2008. She is the polar opposite of Penelope. She is extremely cautious and timid. She loves apples and hates attention and harmonicas. She also growls when she is startled or nervous. But all in all she is very sweet and we love her.

52. I am a Coco-Cola addict. I strongly believe the secret ingredient is crack and I also strongly believe I don’t give a damn. That shiz is delicious.

53. Kasey and I have been together since July 23, 2007. She pretty much rocks.

54. She plays the drums and the piano and she sometimes writes me songs.

55. I like to put spaces in between items on my lists mostly because I don’t see so well and yet I refuse to wear my glasses. Yeah…I’m real cool like that. Wait till I stop being able to see anything.

56. A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is one of the best books I have ever read.

57. I am a member of the Color Me Happy Swaparooni.

58. I recently developed lactose intolerance. I miss cheese!

59. I love post-its and index cards when they are brightly colored.

60. I stalk Etsy.

61. I adore wine and love going to wine festivals.

62. I’m chunktastic and that’s fine with me. I wear a size 22 in case you were wondering and no that is not one of J Crew’s “special sizes”.

63. I work at my parent’s business as a receptionist. I’m not very good at it.

64. I recently started to make 1,000 paper cranes. I’m still not sure why, but it does seem to have a calming effect on me when I am creating them.

65. Right before my current relationship I was with another woman from January 2001 - May 2007. It didn’t end well, so yeah some things are complicated and this might come up from time to time.

66. I could watch the movie Erin Brokovitch over and over again. It has been brought to my attention that this is not normal.

67. I believe yeast infections are the worst infections.

68. I hate going out alone. I rarely venture out by myself and when I do I feel like I should be given a medal or something. I don’t know what I would ever do if I was single.

69. I love quilts.

70. Speaking of which when I was younger my family would always vacation to Willow Valley in Lancaster, PA. So I have a soft spot for Amish people and the smell of manure. It has also made me extremely picky about donuts and baked goods. You haven’t had cake until you have had Mennonite cake.

71. Other family vacation spots? Williamsburg, VA and Orlando, FL. My family picked somewhere they liked and stuck with it. So I have been those three places many, many times.

72. Long car rides make me really happy. Kasey and I will often drive an hour and a half just to go to a nice movie theater in another state and my family is usually all, “Are you two crazy?!”.

73. I’m very out.

74.
