Day 30 - Goodbye NaBloPoMo

November 30, 2006

So I completed the month. I actually almost didn’t post at all today, because I the girl who never gets sick (period annoyances aside) now have some sort of stomache flu. I am attempting to will myself out of it because I have a party tonight, but I had to go home early from work today and I am running a fever…

I am going to go lie back down now.

Day 29 - Almost Done!

November 29, 2006

Today I came into work and went to boot up my computer and it wouldn’t get back the starting up screen. So right now it is with my father getting defragged and I am stuck on my work desktop that seems like a dinosaur compared to my beloved laptop. I am just hopping I don’t need to send it back to Dell.

I have a party for The Body Shop this Friday that I really need to get prepared for. I feel like I haven’t done one in ages. It’s a facial party though and those are usually a lot of fun. I plan on using any money I earn at the party to buy Christmas presents. My bestest friend Ariana is also going to accompany me to the party and maybe even help out again. She is so fantastic at that. I’m so greatful to have a friend like her.

I just got the booklet from NCC for Spring & Summer courses. I am going to fill it out and see what happens. It would be nice to be in school again.

My Family Keeps Getting Smaller

November 28, 2006

So my brothers have been having a rough week. It seems Jason’s girlfriend broke up with him last week and Alan’s girlfriend broke up with him last week. Jason had been with his girlfriend for about two years and Alan and his girlfriend have been together for four. I guess I have some Christmas presents to return.

I’m sad about Jason’s girlfriend leaving because I really liked her and I thought they were going to be together for a really long time. Who knows though? They might get back together.

My brother Alan’s girlfriend is already seeing someone new. He is 10 years older than her which I think is a little gross, but to each his own. As long as my brother is alright.

It’s crazy though. I would have never expected this sort of thing so close to the holidays.

Day 27 - Back to Work

November 27, 2006

I am actually thrilled to be back to work. My vacation to Boston was nice and then it was Thanksgiving so I had time off for that, but it was all a bit overwelming. I am so glad to be back at my job in my town. I also got some lia sophia jewelry in the mail today and that always cheers me up.

I am going to go eat my lunch now because I am hungry.

Day 26

November 26, 2006

So I am starting something new and I am starting it tomorrow, but I won’t say what it is for 10 days because I have a history of not following these things through and I don’t want to start something and not finish it again.

Edit: I accidently made this post private… Woops. : )

Day 25 - This is starting to kick my ass

November 25, 2006

I have stories to tell you guys. I do! I mean I have been having Thanksgiving and black friday shopping. I have also been crashing cemetaries and watching movies. However, it’s hard for me to write on anything, but my laptop and everywhere except my job uses dial-up and that is killing me. Monday everything will be right again.

I am also missing some order forms and that isn’t good and I spent all my black friday money on myself because I am a selfish bitch like that.

Something to Think About #1

November 24, 2006

1. Successful people tend to generalize about good things (“I do well at math, so I’ll do well at anything”), and they consider their mistakes isolated incidents. Less accomplished people tend to do the opposite (“I’m bad at tennis, so I’ll be bad at all sports”). List the skills you do well in the first column, the skills you want to improve in the second, adopt the mind-set of the successful person and assume you’ll master it.* I am going to stick with three things for each.

  • Read
  • Listen
  • Entertain Myself
  • Write
  • Talk
  • Socialize/Go Out

2. Is there anything you’re afraid to put on the list because you don’t have an innate gift for it? Research has shown that self-discipline and practice play a larger part in academic success than talent. How can you find time for the new activity?

You know, I would love to be smarter. I don’t idolize celebrities or people who are rich. I idolize people who have ambition and are smart and who write well either in blogs or novels. One of my highest wishes for myself other than children and a home is to be a doctor. So that is what I am scared to want.

I think making time for any new activity is totally doable. I would just have to shift my priorities.

3. Adults face three obstacles to learning something new, says Jensen: (1) They don’t have much time to devote to a new activity; (2) they’re often tired, (3) they have a lot of naysayers or a lack of support in their lives. Which is most likely to stop you? How can you avoid letting this trip you up?

Honestly it isn’t any of those things for me. Well perhaps in a way the third because I am what holds me back. I am so completely terrified of failing. I am scared of getting out there and not getting anywhere. I am scared of what other students in my classes will think of me. I don’t know if I can do it.

4. Several researchers have noted that people acquire different skills in different ways. Do you know how you learn best – with a book, a hands-on demonstration, or a bulldog of a coach? How can you get the instruction that helps you perform best?

I actually need a lot to learn. I am dyslexic and it doesn’t affect the way I see words, but it really affects the way I perceive things and the way I learn. I need to use all of my senses and be completely immersed in something to understand. So I suppose if we are looking at the doctor thing it would be a good idea to have a tutor from the beginning before trouble starts to make sure I am understanding, reading and if possible practicing.

5. Jensen (I don’t know who Jensen is btw) sets microgoals, breaking down projects into weekly and daily tasks that he can check off. He knows friends who ask someone to supervise their progress – the idea of not letting the person down motivates them to work harder. What will be your system of accountability?

I guess I could have The Mrs. hold me to things and check on my progress. I could also make my baby steps to getting to a larger goal. I have been thinking of starting classes at a community college and then transferring into the Pre-Med program at a university with an associate degree.

*All the questions are from the something to think about section of Oprah Magazine November 2006 edition.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 23, 2006

I am off to make a vegetarian main entree for The Mrs. and a pitcher of Sangria. I made the two apple pies last night so that is out of the way. I might post more tonight or you’ll have to wait until tomorrow.

Have a great day today. Remember what you are thankful for.

Jellyfish #4

I put some of the pictures from the aquarium up on Flickr. Some came out better than others. I really like the one above with the Jellyfish. I really don’t know what is going to happen today so we’ll see.
