Nothing Says Summer Like Grass! (at least nothing I can think of)

July 3, 2008

So, what do you guys think? I realize I am not going to win any blog awards, but with my ZERO computer skillz this is the best that I can do. Is it summery enough? I sure hope so because I really don’t like trying to figure this stuff out. It makes me feel terribly inept.

Oh and for me and the one other person who thought bunnies would make for a cute theme check out my little image down on the bottom right. It’s Tula! Really though, I’m glad to be back. This theme is just really crisp and fresh looking. The other one was pretty, but it made me really miss the things about this one that I love so much. Hopefully we can deal with this one until I have to change it for Autumn, or whatever.

Guess what! Kasey got a job yesterday!! She went in for a trial at the cafe of a community center at one of our local communities and she went home with a schedule for the next two and a half weeks!! They must have really liked her. She is going to be cooking in the cafe and making sandwiches. She also has some cleaning duties. She said she really enjoyed her first day and I am thrilled for her. Getting a job these days is rough and it has been a discouraging few months. Well, she is back in the swing of things now and hopefully this job will go well and she will be able to stay there for a while. It’s less than a mile from our home too so she’ll be able to get there in the Fall when I have to go back to school. It’s perfect.

I have been recouping the last few days from my trip to the Women’s Leadership Institute. I feel like so much happened and I experienced so much that it is hard to figure out what to tell you about. The sessions were alright, but honestly being someone interested in women’s studies as much as I am it was a lot of things I knew already, but it’s always fun to have a refresher course and it’s not like I have that stuff memorized anyway.

The biggest thing that impacted me was the other women there. I was really feeling my age a bit as I was one of the three oldest attendees, but that wasn’t an issue. Though it did lead to a funny moment (for me) when I was talking about something I watched when I was little and no one knew what I was talking about because oh-my-god-they-weren’t-born-yet (or old enough to watch TV).

I really hope I get to keep in touch with the people that I met because I feel like in one short week through sharing my experiences and hearing theirs and just being able to talk honestly without any judgement, I changed so much. I can home feeling lighter, happier and more at peace with myself.

One night me and a woman named Shaneka stayed behind from a trip to Wal-Mart (the only store around there) and had a really awesome 2 hour talk where she told me more of her story and I shared more of mine. It was amazing and really stuck with me. It felt so good to be able to talk about things without a fear of retribution. I also felt like in telling her I was able to let go of some feelings that I had been hanging on to.

I didn’t hold myself back on this trip. I decided that I was going to make an effort to be outgoing and open and meet as many people as possible. I really feel like I lived up to that goal and I hope that I am able to keep in touch with these women for years to come.

If you have added me as a friend on Flickr you will be able to view the pictures in the Women’s Leadership Institute set. If you haven’t added me as a friend on Flickr, then you should. I’m nice!

I am very tempted to start a birthday countdown on my blog, but I as I get older I suppose I should be more mature about these things.

Oh, screw it: IT’S 16 DAYS UNTIL MY 24TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!

I definitely don’t blame you. It’s just a little too much for me. I can’t believe some people can actually create whole designs! I would love to be able to do that, but I can’t wrap my mind around it.

Sometimes, messing with WordPress templates makes me feel inept, and I’m supposed to be a web pro! :-)

I like the colors, they’re easy on the eyes.

I’m glad you were able to connect with others at the conference. Sometimes, that’s the best part about conferences. (Other times, you hope like hell the sessions are decent because you know the company won’t be!)

You were one of the oldest attendees? Crazy…

Happy 16 days until your birthday! I say go for it, celebrate every day. I’ve been getting antsy about counting down to my birthday too. It feels so monumental. (But I’ve built it up so much it will probably disappoint when it arrives.)

Uh, you’re 23 and you were one of the three oldest people there? WTF?

The theme looks all right, I guess the best you could do with your limited computer knowledge… ;) BUT, I guess it’s also your blog and you can, you know, DO WHAT YOU WANT TO.

Glad you had such a good time at your conference! You deserved a nice break…!!!

PS. LOVE your response to that bitch that was making all those stupid comments over at YGB. I laughed SO HARD! LOL… Awesome!

Well, you have to keep in mind it was a trip for college women and at 23 most students have graduated. This trip was for Sophmores and Juniors mainly so it was a lot of 18-21 year olds. One girl was 22. The two older women were in their late 20s.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who has problems with WordPress and I am SO glad you guys like the new color sceme.

Kyle, stop being bitter about me changing the theme after you helped me do the old one. I’m sorry!! I just really love this template.

Plus, I miss you. wtf? You don’t visit, you don’t aim. Shit, I feel like I talked to you more when you lived in Boston.

Also, I know right? Plus her “blog” was a friggin myspace and she was 19. These damn kids have no respect.

I love these colors—they’re very “happy” :) Why can’t I see your header? Is it because I use Firefox?

And you’re feeling your age and you’re not yet 24? I hate you. :) As a 31-year-old “old fart” I’ll be sending you an invite to the club. Heheh.

    CONGRATS Kasey! Way to go!!!!!

  7. Angela says:

Hmm…I am not sure why you can see the header. It’s pretty small. Just a little snip of grass. I only use Firefox.

Haha. I think it is just weird because I feel like things have changed so drastically since I was a teenager already that I am prematurely able to say, “When I was that age!” and have it mean something. LOL. So please don’t think I’m saying “24! Oh my god, I’ll be dead soon!” because I am so not.

Yeah for Kasey is right! These months of only me working have been rough.
