Sesame Street Wasn’t This Hip When I Was A Kid

July 18, 2008

I love Feist and even though I don’t have any young children in my life I was still super excited to hear about her being on Sesame Street. Her song, “1234″ was on one of the first mix CDs Kasey ever made me so I have kind of a soft spot for it.

How cute is this video of her apperance?

It is so sweet and happy. If I was 5 years old I would probably sing this while twirling around in circles. In fact, I kind of want to be doing that anyway.

Rockstar Blogger For A Day

July 13, 2008

Friday I really got to feel like a rockstar blogger. It was so amazing for me. You know, most of the time I just sort of poke around the blogosphere feeling a little invisible. I think that is why it felt like such a breath of fresh air to get two very awesome pieces of news.

This felt so awesome that I had to take some screenshots because I wanted to always have these images.

1. An entry of mine was chosen for FiveStarFriday! It was the one about My Magical Boobies. That was awesome. You should totally check out FiveStarFriday. It makes for some awesome weekend blog reading. I read each and every one of the other entries chosen and I feel honored to be listed next to them. Some broke my heart, some made me laugh and others made me think.

Amazing Screenshot

You can see this very well unless you look at it large size in Flickr. However I will tell you that a link to my site is next to the likes of: Finslippy, Defective Yeti, Sweet Juniper, Ninja Poodles and In Palinode’s Palace.

Oh and if this post doesn’t make you weep I don’t know what would.

2. I was chosen for Alltop. Yes! Me! I’m now featured in the GLBT section. I can’t even handle how excited I am about this. Hooray for being a lesbian with a blog! It came at the perfect time too because I have that gay marriage post from yesterday already set to go. I seem to be one of the only (if not the only) blog listed there that doesn’t really discuss gay issues as a base part of my blogging. I don’t know, for me I basically just talk about my everyday life and experiences and if something comes up that involves my sexuality I certainly don’t shy away from it. I very much consider myself to be out and proud. Plus anyone who reads my site knows that Kasey is a prominent topic.

alltop

I hope that I do my little section justice!

Honestly though, this really has invigorated me. I feel great. Plus I love how disconnected my buttons are: FiveStarFriday, All Mediocre, D-List Blogger, Alltop. It’s fabulous.

Happier Things

June 16, 2008

Alright. Enough of the feeling crappy. I rescheduled the soap class and I will be going July 20th which is the day after my birthday. (I’ll be turning 24 in case you were wondering.) My car repairs ended up costing $285 which is not great, but my cheapest car repair to date so I’m happy.

I also stumbled upon FREE cupcakes on Etsy. What? Free? Cupcakes? YES! You better believe I was all over them. You have to pay listing fees and shipping, but that is minimal. It’s pretty much $5.20 a cupcake or $8.40 for two. Yeah…shipping sucks. It’s from a new shop called Cupcake Revolution. She is giving away the cupcakes to promote her new shop! I ordered three for Kasey and I because I am greedy like that and no where did it say I couldn’t. Believe me, I looked! Don’t think I’m not tempted to get another one either. She didn’t have the Mexican Hot Chocolate one when I looked the first time. Did I ever mention I am cupcake obsessed? Feel free to send one my way! (wink, wink) I’ll be putting honest cupcake reviews on the site when I get them. I hope they’re as good as they sound. I think once they run out that is all the free cupcakes so if you don’t mind paying shipping and listing fees head on over!

I’m going to miss you guys when I can’t blog for a week while I am at the Women’s Leadership Institute. Maybe I can convince Kasey to post (finally) I made her a user account on here back in March, but she hasn’t used it yet.

Oh! Also I swapped with OMSH this time (I actually swapped with two people) and she just got her items and posted about it. So feel free to go over and check that out. It’s also her birthday. Happy birthday Heather!!!!

In short, things aren’t great, but I know everything will work out in the long run. I am looking on the brighter side. I am embracing life’s free cupcakes.

Found Hopefully For The Last Time

May 27, 2008

I lose things a lot. In the long list of things I have lost over the course of my life my Tiffany necklace shows up repeatedly. I don’t know why I have such disdain for the things I adore that I would consistently lose track of them. I used to say I was thankful my car is so large that I couldn’t lose it, but then there was that time I completely forgot whose house I left it at. So for the second time since I gleefully purchased it on my 21st birthday I lost my Tiffany Starfish necklace*.

The first time I lost it I had a sort of Carrie moment. Remember (if you watched it) when Carrie was with the Russian and she found her Carrie necklace in her purse, it has gotten stuck behind the ripped silk? Well when I was moving out after my break-up and getting settled in my parent’s house I found my necklace! It was behind somethings on my TV stand. I have no idea how it got there. Finding it gave me back my sense of self and made me feel like everything would be alright.

This time I was cleaning out my car and I found it loose in a box full of random crap. I can’t believe even after losing it before I was so careless with it. Never again. This is one of my most prized possessions and from now on I am going to make sure I treat it as such.

Weird that I found it almost exactly a year later from when I found it the first time. I think I find it when I need it the most as corny and stupid as that sounds.

It’s once again gracing my neck where it belongs.

* Holy crap. The price on this has gone up a lot in 3 years! I bought this for $295 which is still a lot, but it is $375 now. Yeah…it wouldn’t be mine if it has cost that much then.

Fat Rant

May 21, 2008

I totally loved this. Sometimes as confident as I try to be I don’t feel comfortable with my body and that discomfort keeps me from doing a lot. Lately I have found some fat positive sites and they have really been making me feel good.

Just a note this isn’t a video that skinny bashes. You guys know I am totally against that. It just disputes things people believe about fat people and things fat people start to believe about themselves. And it’s got some humor!

Happy Swapping!

May 15, 2008

I do the Color Me Happy Swaparooni and the April/May theme was Organization. I was matched with alure7 she totally picked up on my going green theme and she bought me 2 awesome notebooks, a journal, a 3 ring binder and a list pad. I love it all! I am so excited to use everything.

Tula Checking It Out

I have been wanting this stuff for the longest, but I haven’t given in and gotten it for myself.

I also totally posed that picture. In the description I make it sound like she wandered over there herself, but I put her there and took the picture before she quickly hopped away.

It Started With A Chair

April 23, 2008

This morning I carpooled with my mom to go to college. (She takes classes at my school too) So I got in nice and early, grabbed a soda and went into the Women’s Center. I have sort of been avoiding it since my break-up because my ex has been working there, but it is early enough that she would not be here. The office was open so I slipped inside and I am now sitting at the office computer and looking around.

I am so excited to be working here soon. Did I mention that? I got a work-study for the summer (hopefully all 3 sessions) and all through next school year. It’s perfect because I can work in the Women’s Center between my classes and get my work done in that time also.

The thing I am most excited about is having the chance to redecorate. I really plan on sprucing things up and making it look more bright and inviting. A lot of the information and posters around here are old school suffragette and early wave feminist stuff. Now, while I definately think that has a place in the center and I am all for learning about women’s history I really want to bring the focus on women now. I think so many times it seems like the only women we that young women admire are Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and that is far from the truth. I want to put strong women’s pictures up with their stories.

I also want a lot more diversity. I’m looking around and I don’t see much of that pictured. Feminism is for everyone and I really want to show that. I can’t wait.

Ever since I decided to make my goal being a Women’s Studies professor I have really felt at peace. I think this is what I have been wanting to do all along. I finally feel content with my goals and what I want to be doing.

Oh! I also was chosen to go to a Women’s Leadership Conference in June. It’s a week long and completely funded by my college. I’ll post more on that later.

It’s time for me to go to class. I’ll update more later.

An Amazing Set of Days

February 8, 2008

Is it February already? Last week I forgot some assignments and in a few short days I got weeks behind in my classes. I also had to drop French 1 due to reasons I will likely detail in a future entry. With all this work I haven’t been able to write and I actually had to mark all read in my feed reader. Something I have never read before. (Don’t worry to my regular readers I still read your entries even if I wasn’t able to comment.)

I am getting back on track and I wanted to tell you all about last weekend because it was such a fun weekend for me!

Last weekend I had the most surreal 3 day weekend ever.

Saturday Kasey and I went to see the movie Mad Money. I have to do another movie post. I’ve seen 6 movies since the last one. I really enjoyed this movie. More about it later!

Saturday night Kasey and I were supposed to go to a bar with one of our friends and a group of their friends. I had my passport all set to get in (I lost my license) so we were good to go. Then the guy at the door wouldn’t let us in because Kasey’s license was expired. Unreal!

So we were a bit bummed. We decided to call my cousin and go to a local bar with her. After we called and said we would be there in a few I remembered it was my brother’s 30th birthday and his band would be playing at another local bar. We switched up our plans, picked up my cousin and headed over there. I usually avoid this bar because it’s pretty seedy and they can’t really make anything. You either order shots, beer or something in a bottle. That night they were even out of flavored drinks so I just got yuengling. I actually had a really great time! We drank and laughed and saw my brother and some people I went to elementary school with. Some of my brother’s old friends were there too. (He has had some of the same friends since he was 14 so it’s cool to see some of the guys I knew when I was little as adults.) We also had the best bar nachos I have ever had. We decided we would have to come back more often.

On Sunday Kasey and I needed to go get some papers from her dad’s house in New Jersey. We drove up there (about an hour and a half drive) and the papers weren’t there! Oops! They were at her mom’s house in PA (about a 25 minute drive). Oh well. I’m glad she got to see her dad! Then we stopped by a cute little bakery she knew of and I got a delicious cupcake! For $.99! Then we headed back home. It was really enjoyable.

Once we got back in the area we did some grocery shopping because we were going to go to my aunt’s house for a little SuperBowl party. We got there a bit after the game and Kasey made some chicken for everyone. Okay. I HATE sport and mainly football. It seems so ridiculous to me. I’m totally in it only for the commercials. Kasey does like sports. She likes the action and excitement. Now, usually I could care less who wins the damn thing, but this time I really did not want the Patriots to win. I just think them (and their fans) are too cocky. I also think they cheat. So this means…I guess…that I wanted the Giants to win. Wanting someone specifically to win made the whole thing a lot more fun. PLUS the Giants did win! Hoorah! It was a wonderful time and I drank way way too much wine.

My family

My cousin looks at me like this sometimes when I have been drinking.

Yippee!

The flash!

Kasey

My sister didn’t have such a good time. She is a HUGE Patriots fan.

Awww....better luck next year

Then it was finally Monday! Kasey and I were out of the house by 10:45 am and on our way to the Philadelphia Auto Show.

Another thing I don’t care about. Cars. I feel like cars any cars turn out to be a waste of money. All that gas and repairs. There is only one car my whole life I have ever lusted after. That car is the VW Beetle Convertable. And I sat in one! And had Kasey take plenty of pictures!!!!

Don't Make Me Leave it Behind!!!!!!!

It was beautiful. Omg! Loved it SO much.

We got there around noon, parked and headed to the Philadelphia Convention Center for the Auto Show.

Almost there!

Kasey also saw a bunch of cars she loved.

Stunned by cars!

If I had half a million dollars...

It has a fake fireplace back there!

Another shot

After the show we had lunch at Delilah’s in the Reading Terminal Market.

Reading Terminal Market

I had fried catfish, macaroni and cheese and collard greens. Kasey had fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and yams. It was delicious. Plus one of the workers there hit on me. His opener was, “You look like you’re deep in thought.” Then he asked if I was on my break and I mentioned the auto show and he asked where I was from. I said about an hour and a half away. He said, “Oh! That isn’t far at all. That’s a nice little drive.” Then said some more stuff. Then Kasey came back with our food. Thank you! When we were leaving he took our trash and told me to, “Be sure to come back and visit us soon, beautiful.” Flattering, but still. He doesn’t know me! Plus Kasey sometimes looks like a guy unless you notice he chest (which was hidden by a jacket yesterday). She could have been my husband! She was both amused and a little jealous.

Where we ate and I was hit on!

After lunch we went back to the car and dropped off some of our stuff. It was time to go to LUSH!!! (Kasey gave me a gift certificate for our 6 month anniversary.) It was about 5 blocks down from our parking garage and we got to walk right threw City Hall, which we both thought was so interesting.

(note: I am sort of obsessed with body products and I love reading about what other people buy and going to websites that talk about body products. I also love it when I get to have new things. Feel free to skim through the rest of this entry if you could care less about this sort of thing. Thanks! <3, Angela)

When we got there we both came in and just deeply inhaled the store’s scent. Then I was off trying to find the things I wanted to purchase. The two sales women were super helpful and not at all pushy. However, one did have to tell me the bad news that they were discontinuing the Happy soap I like so much…so I got 2 big bars, 1 little bar and 2 pre-packaged bars of it. I’m so set with that soap. I also got a big bar of Sexy Peel soap because that one smells really good too.

I got small samples of the Sandstone Soap and Greenwash soap* both to try later. I really don’t like to buy soaps I haven’t tried yet. However, I have been thinking about getting the Figs & Leaves soap so I got a small bar of that. I just noticed that I have tried almost every soap they make. I think next time I will ask for samples of the last ones I haven’t tried yet.

In the prepacked soaps we got two of the ones that came with Happy. They call it the Sunny Hunny set. It also features the Karma soap we both like and Honey I Washed the Kids. I love using the Honey soap as a hand soap in the bathroom. It makes your hands smell SO good. It’s too sweet for me to have all over my body so that is why I prefer it as a hand soap.

Then we also got a pack of the Sweetie Stack because it has a Honey I Washed the Kids also and two other soaps I have been wanting to try Rock Star and I Should Coco.

I got a sample of Aromacreme natural deodorant because I read an article a while back about aluminum in deodorant being linked to breast cancer and since then it has really freaked me out using it. The problem is all store deodorants have aluminum in them. It’s the anti-persperant. So I’m trying it out and seeing how it goes. It smells really good…I will give it that. (I just read a bunch of the reviews and while most of them were positive the negatives all had the same problem. Burning harsh rashes…hmm…that might alone be enough to make me not complete my sample. Now, of course, not everyone has that problem or they wouldn’t make it anymore, but it’s enough to make me not want to pursue it. I might start looking into one of the others right away. )

I also got two lovely lip glosses. I got Lip Squeak and Honey Trap. I think I will keep using these. I’m very happy with how they feel on my lips and they also last a super long time which all my other lip glosses/chapsticks really lack.

I got the Love Lettuce facial mask. Their masks are only available in stores because they are very fresh and don’t feature preservatives. You also have to keep them refrigerated and they only last about 3 weeks. Last time I tried the Cupcake mask, but it really didn’t work for my skin. It was also brown and even though it smelled like chocolate I felt like I was rubbing poo on my face. Not something I want to experience. The Love Lettuce mask is divine! It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. Not dried out, but also not oily either. I am sure I will finish this mask and probably pick up some more in store next time we go to Philly.

Kasey got a chunk of the Lemslip Buttercream to try. It’s like an in-shower moisturizer. I didn’t notice this was for oily skin though so we might have to just get an idea of whether we like the concept or not and then switch to one for dry skin. She also got the Razorantium Shave Cream which I am hoping she will let me try out. She tried it already and really liked it. The last thing she got for herself was the Coconut & Almond Smoothie, which again I can’t wait to try for myself.

For my hair I got the Godiva Shampoo bar. I have had mixed success with their shampoo bars, but I decided to give them another chance. I’ll see if I like this one. It sounds really nice. Kasey also got me the Dream Cream which I LOVE it smells like this Lavender Chamomile Tea I used to drink and it is heaven. I think it is my favorite lotion from there yet. It keeps my legs nice and soft under my tights. It reminds me of the Body Butters I love so much from The Body Shop.

Last, but not least is the Golden Slumbers bath bomb we got for free with purchase. I still have my Butterfly bath bomb from our last trip so now we really have to go on a vacation so I can take a nice long bath.

Here is a view of all the fun stuff we picked up. I’m having so much fun using it all up.

My new stuff!!!!

So that was my three day weekend where I had fun doing three things I wouldn’t think I would enjoy. Sometimes life is surprising like that.

*Greenwash is a holiday soap that they decided to add to their regular soap family. So I am assuming they are reworking the look of it before it’s added back on the site.

Love Song For Me

January 22, 2008

Hello loves! I have a wee present for you all today. Who wants to hear my girlfriend singing me a song?

Kasey was home sick yesterday and spent the day finishing a song she was writing for me. It is a gift for our 6 month anniversary. She is shy so the video is highly protected. It can only be viewed by those listed as family/friends. So if you want to view it go to YouTube and add me as a friend. I don’t think you will be disappointed as it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. She was sick with a bit of a raspy voice when I recorded it, but I think she sounds perfect.

The song title is “Fairytale” and if you know anything about me it is that I do not enjoy most fairytales. I find them insipid and mostly ridiculous. This song is perfect. I takes my breath away.

Here is the link to the video!

I’m not sure if that link will work if you aren’t on my friend list so you may need to use this one to add me.

Sorry to gush, you guys! Remember to leave me a comment somewhere so I know how to get add you to my safe list.

Our actually anniversary is on Wednesday and we are celebrating on Friday with the classic dinner and a movie. My gift to her is not nearly as awesome as writing her a song I am afraid.

I have also been trying to create a book of my blog, but the software keeps telling me my user name/password combination is incorrect, but here I am typing to you so how can that be?

edit: It seems the application is for WordPress.com and not WordPress.org, which is what I use. Oh well!

Great Day In The Morning!

January 3, 2008

I always forget how intensely a morning person I am until I am once again confronted with an early morning on a full nights sleep. (i.e.: going to sleep before midnight) Kasey started her new job and needs to be there at 7:00 a.m. meaning she needs to wake up at 5:15 a.m. I don’t like the idea of being on separate sleep schedules because then one of us is tired while the other one is wide awake so I have been getting up at 5:15 the past two days also. Yesterday was a little rough, but today while she was in the shower I went downstairs and started making us breakfast. I made scrambled eggs and bacon all by myself! (This is a big deal) They were also deemed not only edible, but also delicious. (Another big deal) So I felt very proud of myself. After Kasey left at 6:30 I went back upstairs and had some quality time with my computer before showering and having a cup of coffee.

At 8:00 my parents announced they were going to breakfast. I decided to join them because I was in a good mood and saw the opportunity for more coffee. Three cups later they were done eating and I was off to work.

I feel so happy and productive right now. It takes me forever to get into the writing flow lately and get a blog done, but I have the insatiable urge to write just now. It’s fantastic! I can only hope they keep Kasey on mornings. I’m really feeling happy.

What do you all think about those Talky Blogs some people do? If I posted a video blog every once in a while would you watch it? I’m just wondering because since my new camera and figuring out how to use YouTube I have been thinking about making them a part of my site. Let me know what you think.

I have been going to see a lot of movies lately. I usually don’t like going to the theater because my anxiety is 10-fold and I can’t relax enough to enjoy a movie. It’s really bad. I used to have a fear of having to use the restroom during a movie so I would not allow myself drinks prior to a movie and I would not eat snacks or drink during at all. This often led to me getting sick with headaches and also I would make myself so nervous that I would end up having to pee anyway!

I’m still not good with crowds. There have been two occasions where Kasey and I were planning on going to a 7:00 showing and because of me not being able to deal with the crowds we had to shop and busy ourselves until the 10:00 showings. Kasey has been great with this though and it’s not really an issue. I have also been able to drink at the movies and once Kasey and I even snuck in White Castle because we didn’t have time to eat before the show. It was so much fun. I now LOVE going to the movies. Seriously. If you have ever been out to the movies with me you know what a huge change this is.

In the last month I have seen The Golden Compass, Waitress (on DVD), August Rush, Sweeney Todd and Juno. Let’s talk about them!

THE GOLDEN COMPASS

I tried to read these books when they came out and I simply could not. Too much going on and (in my opinion) they were very dryly written. So while the concepts were interesting enough it just wasn’t something I could read. That being as it is I thought it was nice to get to see the movie and be able to enjoy the ideas of the author without reading it. I thought the movie was interesting and well done. As much as I can not stand that Nicole Kidman she is a great actress and the young girl playing Lyra was perfect. I don’t think I would buy the DVD, but I would go to see another movie in the series if they decide to go ahead with making them. I hear the ending is lacking from the book, but for the movie I thought it was fine.

WAITRESS

I absolutely LOVED this movie. I have got to buy it ASAP. I can’t even believe how much I loved it and many of the scenes made me laugh out loud. It was also heartfelt and just perfect. I 100% recommend you rent this or buy this movie. I don’t see how someone wouldn’t like it. Oh and the on-the-spot poems of one character killed me. WARNING: Viewing this movie will make you crave pies that you didn’t even know existed and you don’t know where to get.

AUGUST RUSH

I wanted to love this movie. I heard rave reviews about it, but I just wasn’t feeling it. The soundtrack was lovely and I bought that. I also thought it was very well acted. Freddie Highmore always gives an A+ performance. I don’t know…I guess the plot just didn’t work for me. I also could not stand Robin Williams in this movie and I was irked most of the time. This little girl, Jamia Simone Nash (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1502417/ ), was unbelievable. The price of the ticket was worth hearing her sing alone. Amazing. I hope we see more of her in the future. She was just outstanding. (Here is a clip of her on YouTube if you were interested in hearing her voice. P.S. – If you watch that clip to the end you won’t be disappointed.) So…I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t bad either. I think my expectations were just too high.

SWEENEY TODD

Another movie I was really looking forward to seeing. This one did not disappoint. I thought the scenery was excellent and the music was stunning. The music was very heavy with orchestra and I thought that was fantastic. It seriously felt like seeing a Broadway play only you were really immersed in it because you didn’t have to deal with props and scene changes. I really got lost in this film. There were a bunch of parts where I had to look away because I am squeamish, but I thought this film was excellently done. No one plays crazy better than Helena and Johnny. I was also pleasantly surprised by Johnny Depp’s singing voice. Of course he isn’t the greatest singer, but for someone who is not a singer he was spot on. I could listen to the soundtrack all day. Everyone did an excellent job. Well written, well acted. Just everything was perfect. I will be buying this.

JUNO

Okay. I wasn’t too into seeing this one. I mean, it looked cute, but it is done by the people who did Superbad and Knocked Up. You can’t have high expectations there. Guys. This is totally the best movie I have seen in a very long time. This is personal opinion, but I loved Sweeney Todd and Waitress. However they didn’t leave me feeling the way this movie left me feeling. I would see it again in the theater in a heartbeat. It’s not even a question that I will purchase this movie the day it comes out. Rare is the movie that can make me crack up laughing and also have me crying to where tears are running down my face. (Side note: I am an emotional movie watcher.) It was so beautifully done. Kimya Dawson (The Moldy Peaches) did the music and while she certainly has her own style she is a feminist and I love her. So that was thrilling to see/hear. It also featured a lovely song by Cat Power, Sea of Love and I could never hear that song enough. Cat Power has this way of keeping the songs short and sweet so it’s hard to grow tired of them. I bought the soundtrack right away and it’s interesting. The music will take time to get used to it, but the film version of The Moldy Peaches song, Anyone Else but You is so worth it. Great movie! If you see it let me know what you thought or if I am on this island alone.

I have some more movies I want to see. I also rented Evening, but besides the breathtaking scenery the movie just didn’t hold my attention and I never did finish it. Really disappointing when you consider the all star cast. Oh well.
