December 7, 2007

Grey’s Anatomy was really good last night! I’m still a little annoyed that my first time seeing Gale Harold back on TV he’s a racist. Oh and Seth Green playing a really sweet guy that DIES? What is up with that? The episode capping was a little confusing at first too. Still an excellent two part episode that brought me back to the was Grey’s used to be. There were so many different surgeries going on at once. Also I am SO glad that George & Izzie had that talk about their relationship and how it might be right someday, but it was the wrong timing. Exactly! Totally wrong timing. Hopefully they will leave it alone until next season when it can really feel right. Now, from what I have heard there is only one more new episode to look forward to of Grey’s until after the writer’s strike ends. So who knows what will happen now.

How can I get a rabbit and not mention again? Sorry! I am having a hard time taking pictures of her because I have a shit camera and my digital editor doesn’t seem to know how to take red eyes off of animals.

Here she is:

Hiding in her Carrier

She is exactly as snuggly as she looks. I am also a big fan of giving my animals long crazy names (see Willow Ozellina Rosemarie and Sebastian Monet Sunshine). So, of course, her name could not be as simple as Penelope. Because I am extremely dorky her full name is Penelope Isobel Grey. So there you have it!

She has been really good, so far. We’re not sure of her exact breed or her exact age or even if she is exactly a her. I’m hoping after her first vet appointment we’ll know more.

She loves kale, pea pods, Brussels sprouts, carrots and radish tops. She’s not too into fruit. We’ve tried a grape, which she liked, but those are supposed to be given in moderation. They say pineapple is very good for her, but she isn’t feeling it. I’ll have to continue to experiment.

The litter box situation is still going well, but she still needs extra guidance when she is free to roam my room. Also as far as toys go if she is allowed to have it, she doesn’t want it. If it is something she shouldn’t chew all she wants to do it chew it.

So it’s been really fun and interesting getting to know this adorable little bunny. I am already completely in love. I can’t tell you how much difference it makes for me to come home to her instead of an empty room.

Wait! Here is one more:

Burn, Don’t Freeze

December 5, 2007

Today I am going to spend a majority of my time here at work writing articles for a zine project I have for my Women’s Studies class. I’m actually pretty excited because I am figuring I can use some of those here as posts. I have a wide variety of topics to talk about and I really can’t wait to work on them.

In other news: I was SO sick last night. I woke up at 2:30 with the worst stomach cramps EVER and then I ended up getting really sick in the bathroom. I know you didn’t need to hear about this, but I always feel so drained after throwing up because I don’t do it very often that I needed to share.

The best movie I have seen lately? Waitress. I LOVED this movie! It even takes place somewhere in the south! It was so funny and sad and touching. I want to buy it. It was excellent. Oh and now I am craving pies I didn’t even know existed. So if you live near a pie shop and have one shipped to me I will love you forever. (Seriously!)

Only two more episodes of Grey’s Anatomy before the writer’s strike ends the airings. What is the problem? What are they even in discussion with these writers about? Hello! We need them! Hollywood needs them. Without people writing we wouldn’t have any of our favorite movies or TV shows. I say give them whatever the hell they want. My mom on the other hand thinks that maybe now they will hire better writers because she thinks Desperate Housewives is getting stupid again.

Me on the other hand (aside from them fucking up George and Izzie) am thinking that Grey’s is getting back to it’s old self this season. Can you believe that racist guy? I was thrilled to see Gale Harold because I loved Queer As Folk, but if there is one group of people that fill me with rage it is racists. Too bad for me I work with some. Oh! And how cute was Seth Green? I have missed him since Buffy. It was nice to see him on Grey’s too.

If there is one thing I can say for the writer’s strike it is leading to better guest stars. I mean Gale Harold and Seth Green are pretty big guest stars to get. Also, Kate Walsh was a co-host on The View yesterday. We’ll see if this continues.

Okay. I think it’s time for me to do some actual work now.

<3

P.S. - I have been cold since three days ago.

NaBloPoMo Day 8

November 8, 2007

When bad things start to happen I tend to overlook them and think that while they are horrible for other people they will not affect me. I also usually don’t want to know if they will effect me. I don’t want the news because I can’t really handle it. The stories make me sad and depressed and it’s not uncommon for me to cry if I watch the news. Then I get filled with dread about all the really terrible things that can happen to me and it makes me not want to go outside anymore or interact with others. So really I have been pretty solid in the past about my news watching preferences. Except that I go to college now and I am at an age where people expect you to know things about the world and not just what gets filtered to you through The View or the occasional Oprah. So…maybe I’ll start reading a paper? I tend to like the New York Times, but then again I read the magazine, style section, book section and travel section and throw the rest out. What do you guys do? How do you get your news?

In any case I am thinking about this for the completely self absorbed reason that Grey’s Anatomy is in on this writer’s strike even though I somehow didn’t think they would be and production will hault after episode 11. They are asking that people stop watching free episodes online at places like abc.com and nbc.com, which I totally used to do. I hope that whoever takes these writer’s seriously. I mean…give them whatever the hell they want! I need my Grey’s!

Also I haven’t gotten a chance to read sites this week and I haven’t had an opportunity to respond to my lovely comments, which I hate it when I’m not able to do that. I will though and you guys know how much your comments mean to me.

OMG!

These Autumn Leaves Are Yours Tonight

September 26, 2007

I have two exams on Friday. One on the scary Biology and one for Women & Politics. I was supposed to have a meeting with a tutor today, but he canceled last minute. Hopefully we can still get that in before Friday’s test. My teacher is also hosting two review sessions tonight and tomorrow night and I fully intend on going to both of them. I will really need the help. It also turns out that I am the only student in the class who has never taken Biology before. This puts me so far behind everyone. I hope I can catch up. I already decided that if I fail the class I am going to take it again next semester. I don’t care if it takes me 8 years to get my degree in Biology/Pre-Med. At this point I am not willing to give up. I will only change my major if I find something else I am as passionate about as being a doctor and that I won’t feel like I am settling. Speech pathology is still a viable option.

It’s Autumn*! I love this season! I feel like I am missing it. The Apple Festival I went to last year is back. It’s this Saturday and I so want to go. The elementary school is having a craft fair also that day and it’s little so it’s more than possible to do both. There is also the Bloomsburg Fair going on this week, but I doubt I will be attending. It’s big and they have a bunny exhibit that I enjoy it’s just not something I usually get to do. There is also the Arts & Crafts Festival that I want to go to, but it is the same weekend as a wine fest in Cape May that I have tickets to. Kasey goes to church on Sundays…but maybe I could go alone. I also want to go to Heckman Orchards.

You also might know that I love all things pumpkin. (Except oddly pumpkin pie.) So I was amazed when I saw Edy’s new fall flavor of pumpkin ice cream. It even comes in Slow Churned, which I prefer. I have to get some before it’s gone. I would even consider getting two of them so I have enough all winter. Yum!

Grey’s Anatomy is new tomorrow! I considered just TiVoing it and waiting to see it until after my tests, but that is just to harsh a punishment. I don’t know how I could be more excited about anything. It’s going to be so great. Thursday is also wing night at this local place in town so my mom, me and Kasey are all going to get wings and watch the fabulousness that is Grey’s. I hoping for a George/Izzie hookup in the first episode. Last season was way too sad!

Fall Apart Again

September 12, 2007

Lately money has been on my mind a lot. It’s interesting how you can be going along fine and then suddenly you are a few grand in debt.

So I didn’t get enough aid to cover school. Which, you know, was fine. I found out I was accepted to the school later than everyone else so I wasn’t able to put my FAFSA in by the deadline. I applied for another loan, supposedly got it and everything was going to be fine. I would have to pay it back after school, but that is to be expected. I would also be getting about $1,000 back. I would be using this towards books and also a few other bills I have. (I had some summer expenses put on my credit card and there was that incident with hitting the woman’s car last week.)

I went to the office to collect the check at the appropriate time to find out not only was there not a check for me. I owe them $1,000. So I don’t know what happened there…we’re still looking into it. Hopefully I won’t have to pull out of school.

In any case I owe them that money and without the money I thought I would be getting back I also owe to repair that car, the textbooks, my credit card payment and my car is also in the shop today getting $500 worth of work done so it can pass inspection. Oh and I make about $175 less per week now that I’m in school.

I’m not going through a good time right now.

I’m also confused about Biology and I still hadn’t heard from the tutoring center as of yesterday so I went over there to see what was going on. Apparently they didn’t even put my application into the system until Monday even though I turned it in two weeks ago! So I am still far down on the list to get assigned a tutor. I’m really worried that I am going to be really behind by then.

I don’t know if this was such a good idea. Maybe everyone was right. Maybe I’m not college material. I want so much to prove them wrong, to prove how I used to think of myself wrong. I just don’t know.

I also had an emotional freak-out on my parents the other day which ended in me crying hysterically. I’m so emotional anyway that I don’t think I am dealing with all these added stresses well.

I’m also pretty lonely at school these days and I feel bad that Kasey has to be there for me so much. The other day (Monday) I had a three hour break and I just kept seeing people who now no longer talk to me after my break-up. I ended up going to my car and spending the entire break there. Then it occurred to me that was much like Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls when she ate her lunch in the bathroom because she didn’t know where to sit. I’m not supposed to be that person. I know that I need to be more outgoing and talk to people. It’s just with everything I’m feeling and thinking about I’m not really up for it.

I have a paper due for Women & Politics due on Friday and I have to get working on that. Hopefully I’ll get going on it tonight.

Kasey has been really amazing through me going a little crazy. Yesterday she surprised my by showing up outside my last class after it was over and she got me season 3 of Grey’s Anatomy, a gift card to The Body Shop, a gift bag from there, 2 larger painting canvases and 2 sets of oil paints! It was all completely unexpected. It made me so happy and tonight (maybe when I take a break from the paper) I will watch some Grey’s and paint.

I really hope the money issues get resolved or I’m not going to be able to deal. Everything else was stressing me out before this. I’m getting to my breaking point.

Sorry to be so moody. Hopefully I’ll have good news for next week.

Off To See The World…or at least Philadelphia

July 26, 2007

Us on the ferry boat!

I’m back from my weekend trip to Philadelphia! I was actually back yesterday, but you guys should know I rarely get things done in an orderly fashion. I will say that I didn’t eat a single hoagie or cheesesteak and I think my parents upon hearing this wanted to disown me. My dad grew up in the projects of West Chester so to him those foods are sacred.

Anyway am going to recap my wonderful trip and I will add links when I can.

SUNDAY -

We woke up early because neither of us felt tired. (I think we were excited). She had spent the night at my house so we drove to Dunkin’ Donuts and had breakfast. Then we stopped by Wal*Mart to pick up some last minute items we needed. We got back and packed the car, checked our directions and headed on our way. I didn’t realize how close we live to Philadelphia and in what felt like moments we were arriving in the city. Maybe it was just the excitement of the trip, but the two hour drive didn’t feel like two hours at all.

(Oh! We also stopped at a rest stop on the way and there was a little Farmer’s Market going on and it was soooo cute. Seriously. They had all sorts of fresh fruit, vegetables and pies and it was just really sweet looking. I would love to go back to it another time.)

Philadelphia Birthday Weekend 047

Once we got into the city I could see the Philadelphia Museum of Art right away. I had my camera out and I was trying to take plenty of pictures. We found parking easily and went inside. The museum was huge. On Sunday they have Pay What You Wish as long as you pay something so we paid $5 each.

Philadelphia Birthday Weekend 074

The first exhibit we went to was some guy from Wyoming in the 1800s. Not my style at all, but it was really neat to get up close the the painting and see the brush strokes. I would love to be able to paint like that. They were also really well done. But where did a guy in Wyoming get money for all the canvas and paints and how were they so readily available?

Philadelphia Birthday Weekend 052

Then we went to see these Japanese paintings on cloth from the 1700s done by a man and his wife which I thought was cool. Most were painted using his fingernails which I thought was a little gross. There were some with orchids that I really liked. I enjoy a lot more color, but they were neat to see and there were a lot of them. We were there on the last day the collection would be there so it isn’t on their website anymore.

Philadelphia Birthday Weekend 056

Then we moved through and saw many of the other exhibits. I enjoyed seeing some of the china and furnature and they also had some really lovely abstracts. I was excited to see some works by Georgia O’Keeffe! There was a section with Pop-Art that Kasey really liked. She also liked some abstracts that we took pictures of. We got in trouble with the guards twice. Once for using flash (oops!) and once for taking a picture in a certain room. They didn’t make me delete the picture though! Ha-HA! I win!! Seriously though I think that guard just wanted to yell at someone because I asked another guard if we could take pictures and she said it was fine.

Philadelphia Birthday Weekend 051

After looking around for a bit we had lunch in the little cafe. They didn’t have much offered, but we each got salads and they were good. The we went to one of my favorite sections the museum gift shop!!! I love the gift shops in museums. They always have the most interesting things. I saw these little Japanese figurines and I really wanted one, but I figured they were expensive so I was looking at other things to get as a souvenir. Then I figured it wouldn’t hurt to go look at them and they had a whole table with them sitting in little packages. They were only $10.95 each! For a museum that is not only not expensive, it’s cheap! I sort of wish I had purchased two because I like them so much, but perhaps I can start collecting them. They are called Momiji Dolls. I ended up getting Cha Cha Cha and she is so cute! I’m really glad I got her.

Our room

By then we were getting a little tired so we decided to go to the hotel and get checked in. We got the car set up in the parking garage and went to the desk. We got our room rather quickly. It was room 716 at the Windsor Hotel. The room was surprisingly large with a long hallway leading to the main bedroom portion. It had lots of storage, I guess because a lot of business people stay there for months at a time. It also had a full kitchen, but we didn’t really bring any food to cook. We had a pretty good view for the 7th floor it faced lots of other buildings so it was neat.

We rested for a bit and then decided to go check out the Reading Terminal Market. It was getting ready to close, but we got to look around and get an idea of where everything was. I really enjoyed it. I think if I lived in Philadelphia I would shop there quite frequently.

Gay bookstore

After we left the market we walked around the city a bit more and started to walk back to the hotel. We stopped at a Wawa and Kasey picked up some things to eat. Then we walked a little ways to the Swann Memorial Fountain which is surrounded by park benches. We sat there for a while and the sun was setting around us. The sky was pinks and purples and really beautiful. That was also where Kasey started her musical about Philadelphia and that had me cracking up and which continued throughout the trip. It was hilarious.

After a while I let on that I was hungry and just didn’t want anything at Wawa so we stopped at Subway and I picked up a sandwich. We went back to the room and watched some TV, went on the computer and read before going to sleep.

MONDAY -

Monday was going to be our busy day. We woke up at 7:30 am and threw on some regular clothing to go downstairs for the free continental breakfast. It’s nice to get free food whenever you can on vacation. We also stole 2 muffins which should not have left the area, but we so took those back to the room. (Ironically we never ate those muffins and ended up bringing them home with us.) We rested a little more and then started to get ready to go out because we had a big day planned. We didn’t end up leaving the room until around noon and then we were walking for a while and we went to Delilah’s in the Reading Terminal Market. They served Southern cuisine and it was fun eating there though it was very crowded. I tried collard greens for the first time and they were pretty good.

After we ate lunch we went and walked around the market for a while and tried to see everything. We saw a man dressed as Benjamin Franklin buying fish and I really wanted to talk to him as if he was Benjamin Franklin, but I settled for standing near him.

Kalani at Penn's Landing Kalani & I

After that it was time for us to head down to Penn’s Landing to get on the Ferry Boat! It would have been hard for me to be more excited about the ferry boats. I was chatting away about Grey’s Anatomy and the ferry boats and how McDreamy has a thing for ferry boats. Kasey was very sweet and looked interested even though I’m sure she could have cared less. (She doesn’t watch Grey’s Anatomy. (I know! I was surprised too! I can’t believe there are still people who don’t watch Grey’s. Shame!)) She said she was really glad that I was so excited about that little part because she didn’t know about me loving ferry boats so it was an added bonus. It was awesome.

Kalani

The ferry took us across to Camden, NJ where we went to the Adventure Aquarium!! That was awesome. They had really cute hippos, which are what we saw first. Then we went to see the sharks and the hall way is like a shark tunnel where the aquarium goes right over your head! Then they had jellyfish displays, we saw seals and penguins outside. They had all these strange sea animals in one part and that was really interesting, like jellyfish that lay at the bottom of the sea floor upside down and fish that change their sex as need be. There was also a touch section and I touched a Jellyfish, lobster and a shark!! That was really interesting. The jellyfish was the coolest thing to touch though it freaked me out quite a lot. We saw a guy holding a really cute turtle and in one of the tanks there were people swimming with the sharks and there were HUGE sea turtles and stingrays in that tank. We also saw starfish and I took a bunch of pictures of them. They were closed when we were there though to give the starfish a break from being touched. We went to the gift shop, but they didn’t have any starfish stuff to buy, which is usually the case. I always hope to find a really cute stuffed starfish.

Lots of penguins

After the aquarium we took the ferry boat back to Philadelphia and then we got on the Phlash to go back to the hotel. It was really neat! It was done up like an old-school trolley and it would take you basically anywhere you wanted to go for $1 which was amazing and that dropped us right in front of the hotel.

Buddakan!Kalani & I at BuddakanChocolate Bento BoxWe went back in and rested for a little while and then it was time to get ready for dinner. I brought 3 dresses to choose from, but I decided on the purple one with my fancy shoes. We went to Buddakan for dinner, which was very fancy. I liked it there a lot. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was really neat. The waitress was very friendly to us, which you always have to be wary of when it’s two women dining out together, but we had no problems at all. A nice couple next to us took our picture and the food was served family style so we could share, but I’m not very bright and forgot that Kasey didn’t like steak even though we had discussed it the day before. So while I could try hers she wasn’t able to try mine. I’ll have to think more next time. We shared this dessert called the Chocolate Bento Box and it was amazing. I had such a good time.

When we left we decided to walk around a bit. We found out where Sisters was and we decided to check it out. They said that Monday nights were low-key and they were not kidding. There were only a few other people there and they were all completely engrossed in the TV. Kasey and I both thought that was really funny. They had 8-10 happy hour and our drinks were SO CHEAP. The first round was a Grey Goose Martini and a vodka and cranberry both for $6 and then the second round was two HUGE SoCo and lime shots for $4!!! Each shot was really the size of two shots and we usually pay $4.50 each around here. So I thought that was amazing and it made the stop there totally worth it. I would be very interested in going there another night when it’s a little more crowded and the dance floor is open.

Woohoo for Phillie!

We walked around more until both our feet couldn’t do it anymore. (I was in heels and her one foot was bothering her.) Then we grabbed a taxi and took it back to the hotel room where we collapsed onto the bed. We both read for a little while, but I must have been so tired because I kept falling asleep while I was trying to read and then at one point I guess I laid my head down because when I opened my eyes Kasey was looking at me and she said I had been out. It was a busy day though. So we both went to bed and I fell asleep again right away.

TUESDAY -

I was sad to be leaving our lovely little room on Tuesday, but I was thrilled that our mini-vacation didn’t feel like it went by too fast. That was what I was most afraid of. We stayed in the room until we absolutely had to leave. Then we got the car and parked it in another lot and went out to see more of the city. We stopped at some more cute little stores and I enjoyed looking around.

Beautiful Mural

We went to the most amazing soap store duross & langel. I wanted to buy some fancy soaps, but I didn’t want to use all of my money on that stuff so I settled on a business card and the nice man working there gave us some soap samples. After looking the shop up online too I found out that they have soap making workshops and the store is owned by a gay couple. That thrills me! I love The Body Shop, but I have been weary of them ever since they sold to L’orreal. So I am really interested in eventually switching brands and it seems like it would be such a cool idea to start buying all my body products from an independent company. So I am pretty excited about it. The next workshop I would want to go to is in September so I’ll keep you posted about that.

Important looking building

We walked around for a while more and then we started to get hungry so we stopped at the Metropolitan Cafe (I think that was the name) and had some lunch. Then I wanted to go to this chain sex-toy store (The Pleasure Chest) which was supposed to be like Babeland. So we walked forever to get there and it ended up being very small and dumpy with a lot of crazy S&M stuff. So that was a bust, but we walked through the shopping district to get there so that was neat. Then we walked back another way and I saw a Gap Outlet so we stopped and I got a really cute red polo with adorable sleeves. I wish I had gotten it in other colors. After that we stopped to get some ice cream and mainly rest our feet.

Kalani driving

After that we stopped at Borders and they were sold out of Harry Potter except for one copy. We picked it up and Kalani had been trying to read it on vacation so I thought it would be nice to stay there for a while and read in the cafe. We ended up staying for about 2 hours! Kasey finished Harry Potter (which she deemed amazing and non-stop action) and I nearly finished my Anita Blake novel. By that point it was starting to get later and we didn’t want to get home too late so we decided to head back to where the car was parked. We left the city around 6:30 and we had barely any traffic at all. We got home early and Kasey came over to my house for a bit we ate dinner and then she went home. I was a little sad to see her go, but it was one of the most amazing weekends I have ever had and it was an insane 23rd birthday present.

Philadelphia Birthday Weekend 071

After she left I stayed up a little while and finished my novel. I went to sleep and then woke up at 7:00am Wednesday morning to have breakfast with my parents. Then Wednesday night my cousin and I drove to Barnes & Noble so I could return a book I bought the wrong version of and I bought four more books in the Anita Blake series. I have a ton of reading to do. I finished book #3 and book #1 and now I am reading book #2. After this I will be reading books 4 through 14 in order. We’ll see how long it takes me. :)

This summer has been such a roller coaster for me. I wonder what August will bring.

Really Pissed Off

March 9, 2007

There is one thing that happened at the party that made me so mad I really didn’t want to mention it.

Of the people who went with me were The Mrs., Ariana and Brittany who is one of Ariana’s friends and one of my hostesses. Brittany is very classically pretty. She is young, thin and blonde with blue eyes. There were a lot of guys at this party being that it was in a bar and some of the guys began making lewd comments and such and it was really annoying.

As we were leaving one of the guys said something about having sex with her. Ariana said as she was walking out that Brittany would never have sex with him. Then as The Mrs. was walking by her said, “Well then I would rape her”.

We told Ariana and Brittany what he had said on the ride home and we were all so pissed off. I mean really. Who says shit like that? It wasn’t like he was alone either. He was sitting at a table with a bunch of other guys and some girls and they all laughed about it.

We figured it was that area because where we live if anyone ever said anything like that in a bar around other people there is no way they would not get beat up.

Then today I was reading Mimi Smartypants and she had some teenager say worse to her on the bus.

The worst thing about these situations is that it is such a horrible thing for someone to say that in the moment we can’t think of what to do. Mimi yelled about raping waffles and all The Mrs. could do was glare. She told me right before I left and the worse I could do was glare.

It made me so unbelievably angry I couldn’t react.

The car ride home was a different story. We all talked about what we should have done or wanted to do. The best was Ariana’s suggestion and as gruesome as it is I laughed most of the way home and when I think about it I laugh again. She said something along the lines of gutting him like a pig and then fucking the open wound with a strap-on.

I know, I know. Very explicate, but it is funny to think about.

One of the most gratifying things I have ever seen is that episode of Grey’s Anatomy when that girl is raped, molested and beaten in the park and they find out that she bit her attacker’s penis off. He eventually comes in to the ER because he is, of course, bleeding to death. He is then stitched up (sans penis), arrested and told he will never have sex again. I really loved that. If only it always worked out like that.

100 things: Survey Edition

Stressed

November 10, 2006

I am stressing myself into a heart attack while getting reading for my parties tonight and tomorrow and this panic attack is fueled equally by my anxiety disorder and the fact that I only have 8 catalogs. Oh boy!

I also still managed to punch out a blog about how I now have health insurance and somehow I lost it. Which, you know, is just great. I may post a littl something later on tonight, but who the hell knows.

Don’t think I haven’t thought about copying the entire catalog and offering some poor guest a grainy b&w version to shop out of because I have.

Put that in your pie plate, Bingo!

Oh the sunshine is pouring out of me today. I picked a great domain name.

Did you guys watch Grey’s Anatomy last night? My god! All the scenes involving the still-born made me cry so much. Everything else was wonderful. Next week is going to be intense!
